Red ArrowThree Mt. SAC Athletic Training Students Earn Their Certification in Athletic Training
May 1, 2015

(Walnut, CA)  Three former Mt. SAC Athletic Training Students have passed their Board of Certification Exams and have earned certification as an athletic trainer.

Daniela Medina will graduate from Cal Baptist University with a Masters Degree in Athletic Training and her certification as an Athletic Trainer. Medina, a U.S. Army Reservist, began her academic studies at Mt. SAC in the Athletic Training Work Experience (KIN 92) Class. She later transferred to Cal State Fullerton, where she received her Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology.

Kylie Trammel will also graduate from Cal Baptist University with a Masters in Athletic Training and her certification as an athletic trainer. This past spring, she spent a great deal of her time at Mt. SAC working with the Baseball Team.

Hannah Alexander passed her certification as an athletic trainer and will graduate from Chapman University with her Bachelors in Athletic Training.

Along with the three students, U.C. Davis Medical School student, Christina Thabit (Niece of Mt. SAC Head Athletic Trainer, Andy Paulin), who spent an Orthopedic Rotation with the Mountie Doctors and Athletic Trainers will graduate with Medical Doctorate on May 30th.

Congratulations to these outstanding Mountie Students and the Mt. SAC Athletic Training Program!

Red ArrowPast and Present Mt. SAC Head Athletic Trainers Meet Up at FWATA Conference
April 18, 2015
- (San Diego, CA)  Former Mt. SAC Head Athletic Trainer Buford "Bick" Harmon, PT, ATC  and current Mt. SAC Head Athletic Trainer Andy Paulin, ATC, met up at the 2015 Far West Athletic Trainers Association (FWATA) Convention which was held in San Diego, CA on April 18, 2015.

Harmon a long time Head Athletic Trainer at Mt. SAC, preceded Paulin who arrived in 1983.  Harmon and Paulin are both members of the FWATA Hall of Fame.  Harmon was inducted in 1999, while Paulin joining him in 2009.  Along with his career at Mt. SAC, Harmon was also the long time physical therapist for the Anaheim Angels and has had private physical therapy practice (Harmon Physical Therapy) for many years in West Covina, CA.

Red ArrowMt. SAC Athletic Training Staff at the 2015 Bailey-Arnheim Games
March 9, 2015
- Mt. San Antonio College was represented at the 2015 Bailey-Arnheim Games (BAGs)  at California State University Long Beach on Sunday, March 8, 2015. This one-day event was an opportunity for athletic training students to represent their respective schools and programs and apply their knowledge and skills while competing in eight events related to the field of athletic training. The events are geared toward preparing the students for the BOC Certification Exam and will require skills in evaluation of injuries, taping, teamwork, problem solving, and other subjects of Athletic Training Program curricula.

In addition to the games, the students  attended and participated in workshops and lectures given by working professionals and educators. Also, they were  given the opportunity to network with professionals and peers without the high registration fees of conventions and conferences.

lineRed ArrowLong Time Head Athletic Trainer, Carsandra Taylor, Retires After 35 Years
September 7, 2012
- After serving the student-athletes and coaches of Mt. SAC Athletics for 35 yeras, long time trainer Carsandra Taylor, has retired. A pioneer in athletic training, Taylor was only the second African American Female to every be certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association. Her dedication to her student-athletes at Mt. SAC, helped keep them healthy and strong, giving them the opportunity to capture numerous championships. "We are forever indebted for the three and a half decades of service she has given to Mt. SAC," replies Athletic Director, Joe Jennum. "We will dearly miss her."

Taylor. was an outstanding Track & Field and Basketball Athlete and was inducted into her high school Hall of Fame at Matawan Regional High School in New Jersey. She also served many USA Track and Field National Teams throughout the years, as well as serving at the 1984 Olympics, where she was forever captured in one of the most iconic sports photos of all time, coming to the aid of fallen runner Mary Decker Slaney, at the 1984 Olympics.

Although retiring from Athletic Training, Taylor will remain part of Mountie Athletics as an Assistant Basketball Coach.

We thank Carsandra Taylor for all she has done for Mt. SAC Athletics and wish her the best in retirement!

Red ArrowVanessa Suarez Accepted Into The Cal State Long Beach Athletic Training Education Program

- Congratulations to Mt. SAC Athletic Training Student, Vanessa Suarez, who has been accepted into the Cal State University at Long Beach Athletic Training Program program. Suarez has spent 3 semesters with the Mountie Athletic Training Staff and will start her ATEP in the fall of 2011.

Red ArrowMt. SAC Head Athletic Trainer, Bill Ito, Appointed Head Athletic Trainer For The USA World Youth Track And Field Team
April 27, 2011
- Congratulations to Mt. SAC Head Athletic Trainer, Bill Ito, who was appointed the Head Athletic Trainer for the upcoming 2011 USA World Youth Track and Field Team that will be competing at the IAAF World Youth Track and Field Championships in Lilles, France this July 6th through the 11th. The World Youth Track and Field Championships crowns the top track and field athletes in the world between the ages of 15 and 17.

At Mt. SAC, Ito works with 7 Mt. SAC Athletic Teams as well as directing the medical  coverage of the World Famous Mt. SAC Relays and Cross Country Invitational. 

Ito previously has served as the Head Trainer for the 2010 USATF World Junior Track and Field Team, the 2008 USATF Half Marathon Team which competed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the 2006 USATF World Junior Track and Field Team which competed in Bejing, China. In addition to his work with our national teams, he currently leads the medical staff of the USATF Pole Vault High Performance/Development working with our nations top pole vaulters and directing the medical staff at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nevada.

April 25, 2011
- Congratulations to Mt. SAC Athletic Training Aide Certificate Graduate, Kevinz Carpio who was accepted into the highly competitive Cal State Fullerton Athletic Training Education Program. Carpio a sophomore out of Rio Hondo Prep (Arcadia, CA) has served as an student athletic trainer for the past 2 1/2 years working with the Track and Field and National Championship Winning Football and Men's Soccer Programs. "Kevinz is an extremely hard working and has the tools necessary to become a great trainer," replies Head Athletic Trainer, Bill Ito. "We are excited that he was accepted into the prestigious and highly competitive Cal State Fullerton Athletic Training Program."

March 24, 2011
- Congratulations to Mt.SAC Athletic Trainer Andy Paulin. He is among 9 other Athletic Trainers from around the US that will be inducted in the National Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. The ceremony will occur during the NATA Annual Conventionm June 19-22 in New Orleans.

The NATA Hall of Fame exists to recognize the very best Athletic Trainers in the United States. Induction into the Hall of Fame honors athletic trainers who exemplify the mission of NATA through significant, lasting contributions that enhance the quality of health care provided by athletic trainers and advance the profession.

Andy has been an athletic trainer at Mt. SAC for over 26 years. In 2009, Andy received one of the highest honors in his profession, the NATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award. Andy works with our Baseball, Football, Men's & Women's Swimming and Wrestling athletes.

- Mt.SAC Athletic Trainers Bill Ito and Andy Paulin hosted local high school students interested in the field of Athletic Training to an Articulation Day at Mt. SAC. Students met with the Mt.SAC Athletic Training Staff to learn how their high school athletic training education will articulate into the Mt. SAC program and then "springboard" them into the university athletic training education programs. More of Articulation Days are planned for the Spring.
